Seth Rogen Plays His Grandfather and Grandson in Comedy ‘An American Pickle’
Premiering August 2020 on HBO Max.
The first trailer for Seth Rogen‘s HBO Max film An American Pickle has been released. Helmed by frequent collaborator Brandon Trost, the upcoming comedy sees the actor portray both his grandfather, Herschel Greenbaum, and his great-grandson, Ben.
Based on Simon Rich’s short story Sell Out, Rogen’s first character Herschel is a Polish immigrant who works at a pickle factory in the United States in 1920. He falls into a vat of brine and emerges 100 years later, fully preserved, in the year 2020. His immediate family members have all passed at this point, but he does manage to track down Ben, and the two attempt to form a relationship, with Ben teaching Herschel about the 21st century and Herschel offering guidance to Ben who unexpectedly lost his parents some years ago.
Joining Rogen in the cast are Sarah Snook, Sean Whalen, Jorma Taccone, Joanna Adler, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Geoffrey Cantor, David Mattey, Charles Rogers and Kevin O’Rourke.
