Netflix announced a new six-part, live-action The Witcher spin-off series called The Witcher: Blood Origin set 1200 years prior to the original series. The story will focus on the first Witcher and how the deadly profession came to be. Although details on the newly announced show are scarce, the upcoming Netflix Original is slated to be created by Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the latter of which serves as the original Netflix series’ showrunner.

The Witcher: Blood Origin will also explore the culture of Elves, the universe’s monsters, the history of men, and the general lore of the series that hasn’t been explored in the streaming service’s main series, games, or the books either are adapted from. It is also speculated that the creator of the series Andrzej Sapkowski will presumably involved as a creative consultant.

“1200 years before Geralt of Rivia, the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one, and the first Witcher came to be,” reads an official pitch of the series. “Announcing The Witcher: Blood Origin, a 6 part live-action The Witcher spin-off series from Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.”

“This has been the toughest secret to keep,” added Hissrich alongside the announcement. “I’ve always wanted to dive deeper into the myth and lore of the Continent, and now fans will have a chance to explore it with Declan de Barra in a prequel series, The Witcher: Blood Origin. Elves, and enemies, and the end, oh my…”

There is currently no release date, production date, or casting news as of yet, which implies the series is far from release. Netflix also announced earlier this year that an anime within The Witcher universe is expected to arrive at a later date as well.

In other entertainment news, here’s how long it will take for someone to watch everything on Netflix.
