Nike Space Hippie Collection Receives Official Release Date
The sustainable four-shoe lineup is set to hit shelves this summer.

UPDATE (June 9, 2020): The Nike Space Hippie collection’s US SNKRS release date has been pushed from June 11 to July 3. Both European and Asian SNKRS outposts are retaining the original June 11 release date.
ORIGINAL STORY (May 28,2020): Originally revealed as part of an extensive Olympic rollout, Nike‘s Space Hippie collection has now received an official release date. The offerings included four silhouettes — the Space Hippie 01, Space Hippie 02, Space Hippie 03 and Space Hippie 04 — each of which is built almost entirely of sustainable materials, and all of which are a driving factor in Nike’s Move to Zero initiative.
Although all four silhouettes may be divergent in shape, they’re united in ecologically-conscious build. Knit uppers are made from Space Waste yarn, a recycled polyester constructed of recycled plastic bottles plus t-shirt and yarn scraps. Meanwhile, midsoles are built of a new material called Crater Foam, a blend of standard Nike foams and 15% NikeGrind rubber, which provides the colorful flecks seen on each model. This is combined with recycled ZoomX for exemplary comfort.
From a looks standpoint, this new-age material mix makes for appealingly rough-hewn designs, some with a bricolage-style build. The 01 and 04 models are the most traditional of the bunch, both serving up a low-cut silhouette with a standard lacing system. On the other end, the 02 and 03 venture further off the beaten path with high-cut uppers that are laceless (02) or use an advanced Flyease system (03) usually seen on performance basketball or running silhouettes. All four pairs are dressed in grey, blue, and orange — and there’s also a lone grey, black and volt iteration of the 04. A fully recycled tee accompanies the offerings.
The Nike Space Hippie 01, 02, 03, and 04 will release globally via Nike SNKRS come June 11. Prices range from $130-$180 USD. For more on Nike’s sustainable design initiatives like “Move to Zero,” head over to the Nike Purpose page.
