Gorillaz Perform "Aries" on Jimmy Kimmel Live
Damon Albarn and 2-D perform a socially distant duet.
Last night, Gorillaz frontman and co-founder Damon Albarn joined Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform the band’s latest Song Machine hit, “Aries” in a special duet with 2-D, who joined in via socially distant video chat. According to Jimmy Kimmel, this was the first time that Damon performed a duet with one of his animated friends.
Gorillaz continue to build up momentum for their ongoing Song Machine project with a number of high profile collaborations and music videos. Last week they premiered “How Far” featuring Tony Allen and Skepta, released just days after the legendary Nigerian drummer and one of the founding fathers of the Afrobeats movement passed away at the age of 79. Other installments include “Désolé” with GRAMMY Nominated Malian singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara and “Momentary Bliss” with slowthai and Slaves.
On “Aries,” Gorillaz originally tapped Joy Division and New Order member Peter Hook and producer Georgia for additional drums. The Kimmel Live performance found Albarn in his home studio (the same locale from his recent Boiler Room: Streaming from Isolation performance). Watch the full “Aries” set above.
In more music news, Preservation teamed up with Quelle Chris for his latest single “Rose Royce” ahead of his forthcoming album on May 29.
