Among the vast catalog of rich Netflix productions, like the recently previewed Altered Carbon: Resleeved, the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory series or Ozark Season 3, a new true-crime series is set to stream soon on the big platform: Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness.

The series tells the unbelievable story of Joe Exotic, also known as Joseph Maldonado-Passage, who opened his own private zoo in Oklahoma after amassing a collection of over a thousand animals. To say that he had a love for animals would be an understatement. Besides having a colorful personality, with his blonde mullet and larger-than-life presence, Joe often found himself in trouble with the law, facing a $1 million USD lawsuit, a slew of animal abuse accusations and, most damning of all, two counts of murder-for-hire charges against one of his most vocal critics.

Found guilty earlier this year, Joe is currently serving a 22-year sentence, and the upcoming Netflix series details just exactly how he ended up in jail. Beyond the murder-for-hire charges, the show’s trailer offers a glimpse at all the bizarre chaos that surrounded Joe and the zoo — druglords, cults, magic shows, country music and polygamy, to mention a few. In a press release, Netflix shared a brief synopsis for the show: “Charismatic but misguided, Joe and an unbelievable cast of characters including drug kingpins, conmen, and cult leaders all share a passion for big cats, and the status and attention their dangerous menageries garner. But things take a dark turn when Carole Baskin, an animal activist and owner of a big cat sanctuary, threatens to put them out of business, stoking a rivalry that eventually leads to Joe’s arrest for a murder-for-hire plot and reveals a twisted tale where the only thing more dangerous than a big cat is its owner.”
