Also announcing a new album titled ‘Back to the Village.’

ORIGINAL STORY (March 9, 2020): After revitalizing grime’s longtime emphasis on clashes with several hard-nosed exchanges with Stormzy earlier this year, Wiley has now returned with a remix of his 2008 grime-meets-electro hit “Wearing My Rolex,” offering up a new take on the Bless Beats-produced track alongside Hypo.
On the remix, Wiley maintains the sample of “What Would We Do” by DSK, slowing down the tempo for a more orthodox grime backdrop. On the track, the Godfather continues to showcase his brisk flows and no-nonsense bars. Remixing the track is a significant move for Wiley considering his anti-commercialization motives that have sprouted over the past couple of years. The original track — which flew to the No. 2 spot on the UK charts in 2008 — started a wave of commercialization in grime, eventually leading to the likes of Skepta, Dizzee Rascal, and Tinie Tempah following in his footsteps before the genre’s resurgence in the mid-2010s.
Alongside the remix, Wiley has also announced yet another album release. Seemingly scrapping plans for Full Circle and the long-teased Godfather 3, he’s now shared that his next project, titled Back to the Village, will be arriving on April 24. While many are skeptical as to whether or not Wiley will actually release the project, the artist also has a performance scheduled for Manchester’s Sidewinder Festival on May 2 under the album’s name, leading many to believe that this time Wiley isn’t playing around.
