Watch Tom Hanks Fight Nazi U-Boats in Trailer for 'Greyhound'
Hanks’ latest WWII drama arrives this summer.
Sony Pictures has shared the official trailer for the action-clad war drama Greyhound, which stars Tom Hanks as a WWII naval captain who promises to “bring hell from on high” on Nazi U-boats.
Based on C. S. Forester’s 1955 novel The Good Shepherd, the Aaron Schneider-directed film features a screenplay from Hanks, who also produced the film. For those familiar with Hanks’ long career, he also served as director, producer, and screenwriter to renowned WWII miniseries Band of Brothers. Rob Morgan, Stephen Graham, and Elisabeth Shue will co-star alongside Hanks in the film.
In Greyhound, Hanks stars as Captain Ernest Krause, who leads an international coalition of 37 Allied ships across the North Atlantic, all the while being pursued by packs of Nazi submarines. The trailer, viewable above, sets the stage for Hanks’ character, opening with Krause praying as the coalition sets out to sea. The crew receives a radio message that the territory they are entering is beyond treacherous, whereby planes won’t be able to cover for five full days. The ship, codenamed “Greyhound,” can be seen destroying one of the U-boats before taking heavy losses.
Greyhound hits theaters on June 12.
