Last year’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection from DELUXE was imbued with vibrant skate inspirations that took casual silhouettes and refined them with a contemporary twist. The Japanese label’s design ethos for paying close attention to cutting and fabrication has often resulted in highly wearable goods, and this season’s lineup is no exception. For SS20, DELUXE has introduced a dynamic balance of patterns, minimal shades and palettes that enliven an assemblage of loosely tailored silhouettes.
The collection spans garments like a bright green cardigan, silk shirt, floral slacks, zebra-print knitwear and graphic tees, alongside pieces like a crisp white drop-shoulder T-shirt, checkered trench coat, solid orange hoodie, black denim and olive knit sweater, to name a few. One noteworthy piece is a flight jacket, emblazoned with a faint floral print atop a light burgundy wash. The piece boasts classic military design cues, like a slightly cropped cut, standard spread collars and cargo flap pockets near the waist. As a finishing touch, the jacket boasts a brass two-way zipper, muted dark brown ribbing at the hemline and side-entry openings at the lower pockets.
Another highlight is a graphic T-shirt that was made in collaboration with Japanese skate imprint Evisen. Printed atop a clean black tee, a silvery-blue Evisen logo has been rendered in a font that nods to the classic thriller movie Alien. The print is boldly placed at the back of the T-shirt and works in sci-fi-inspired motifs to the letters that make up “Evisen.” Other garments like the neon-clad short-sleeve button-up, black shorts, loungey silk slacks, shorts and accessories like bucket hats and eyewear round up the concise collection.
