Qasimi's New SS20 Collection Is for the Optimistic Urban Nomad
With details heavily influenced by the military.

London-based fashion brand Qasimi is back for the Spring/Summer 2020 season with another politically-charged collection, this time built around the idea of the urban nomad and a utopian future. Heavy canvas, fence embroidery and camouflage prints – amongst other features – make up an integral part of a collection that’s deeply influenced by the military.
Against the backdrop of ongoing political tension, Qasimi’s new SS20 collection revisits the possibilities of fashion design from a Middle Eastern perspective. Various moods of peace and optimism are seen in the range’s sun-bleached color palette – also referencing designer Khalid Al Qasimi’s childhood in the United Arab Emirates – and military inspirations can be seen in the collection’s use of fabrics, military canvas, heavy twills and ripstops. Further detailing comes in the use of rivets for garments which mimic the nuts and bolts of armored vehicles, and minimal, relaxed tailoring manifested through side-vent constructions, open-weave meshes, grid-stitch knitwear, slouchy chinos and pinstripe shirting.
Qasimi SS20 is a silent protest of war: the words of Najib George Awad, a poet who writes of his war-torn homeland Syria, reverberate around the collection. Shaker Kashgari’s calligraphy which reads “you forgot me” in Arabic is answered on the backs of a selection of T-Shirts and hoodies: “never forget” and “never forget the ones that love you back”.
The label’s Spring / Summer 2020 range is a proud and resilient collection that seeks to unite those going through dark and turbulent times through the medium of fashion.
