MatchesFashion has worked with Jil Sander for an exclusive collection of understated pieces for the Spring/Summer 2020 season. The menswear element of the collection covers a range of reworked eveningwear pieces, with stand-outs including a deconstructed cashmere overcoat and a single-breasted tuxedo. Elsewhere, the 7 Evening Shirts collection — a reference to the label’s 7 Day Shirts — will run through both the menswear and womenswear offerings.
Announcing the collection, Jil Sander co-creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier explained the eveningwear influence, adding that they were “seeing what a modern evening look really feels like – and what we really want to wear to formal functions. Something that’s comfortable but that still feels like you’re dressed properly. We talked a lot about the person going through the week, like “what do you feel like on a Monday and what do you want to wear by Thursday?” You’re already thinking about the weekend by Wednesday, so talking it through helped to find the right proposal for us.”
Take a look through the lookbook in the gallery above. The pieces are available now from the MatchesFashion web store, while Luke and Lucie Meier have also created a unique installation at 5 Carlos Place.
Jil Sander also recently debuted a collaboration with Mackintosh through its Jil Sander+ line.
