Shaquille O’Neal's King-Sized 1998 Ferrari F355 Spider up for Auction
The Big Shamrock’s sportscar was modified to fit his 7’1” frame.
Never let it be said that beloved NBA retiree Shaquille O’Neal is a man of few passions. Though Shaq dabbles in everything from target shooting to Yoga to — of course — rap, collecting speedy cars and motorcycles may be his most consistent past time. Every now and then, Shaq Diesel culls the herd, however, as evidenced by the sale of his stunning 1998 Ferrari F355 Spider, especially customized to fit his immense 7’1” frame.
Sporting a classic look, this Spider’s exterior looks to be hardly touched, aside from some aftermarket upgrades that include a custom soft top, sound system, Formula 1-inspired transmission and Pirelli P Zero tires fitted with silver 19” Giovanna Luxury wheels. Besides some recent upkeep, many stock details remain, including a 3.5 liter V8 engine — boasting 376 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque — and body-matching tonneau cover.
The sleek speedster has been rearranged to make room for the big man; specifically, the fuel tank was shifted to make room for two extra-deep seats with bespoke Superman logos stitched at the heads, referencing another of Shaq’s many nicknames. Even with this extra work, however, Shaq apparently didn’t take this Spider out for many spins, as the speedometer reads only 7,000 miles — according to the seller, only 1,000 miles were added between its purchase in 1997 and sale in August, when a dealer acquired it from one of Shaq’s friends.
