Pharrell Confirms Drake Did Have an adidas Partnership Planned
Also revealing Justin Timberlake’s ‘Justified’ was originally for Michael Jackson
During his appearance on N.O.R.E and DJ EFN’s Drink Champs show, Pharrell Williams confirmed that Drake really did have an adidas partnership planned. Despite being well rumored, the mention by the adidas collaborator serves as the first real note of validity to the claim launched by Pusha T on his “The Story of Adidon” diss track. Pharrell went on to say, “I didn’t wanna see that go that way. That didn’t make me happy…I hate to see what him and Drake are going through—or what they went through. I hated to see all of it, every bit of it … it wasn’t good.”
Aside from revealing that he originally didn’t like Snoop Dogg‘s “Beautiful” and “Frontin” was initially offered to Prince, the music icon said that Justin Timberlake‘s Justified solo debut album was originally for Michael Jackson. But the late King of Pop wasn’t interested in the selection of songs and was actually in the music Pharrell was making for N.O.R.E, specifically noting “Superthug.”
Moving on Pharrell also told the duo why he no longer wears BAPE, despite being a big part of why the Japanese brand became popular in the United States. Pharrell simply note that NIGO no longer owned the brand, “He sold BAPE … a long time ago…so I don’t wear it…I haven’t worn BAPE since, shit, ‘08? No disrespect to them or whatever, but it ain’t NIGO.”
