Ralph Lauren’s 90s Archives Inspires a Capsule With Mytheresa
A 12-piece collection of reinterpreted apparel and accessories.
After linking with Moncler for an exclusive collection earlier this year, luxury retailer Mytheresa returns this winter with a vintage-inspired capsule alongside American stalwarts Polo Ralph Lauren.
Diving into the brand’s rich archives, this exclusive 12-piece collection sees nature and fishing-inspired prints used on ready-to-wear apparel and accessories that evoke memories of the garments worn in the late 1990s.
“It was like taking a journey back through a history of menswear,” explains Chris Kyvetos, Buying Director of Menswear at Mytheresa. “The ‘Library’, as it is referred to, spans an entire city block in New York City and has references dating back to the turn of the 20th century. To be able to explore Mr Lauren’s collection of references alongside his own works was a real experience for us that will most certainly influence our views for years to come”.
Staying true to Polo Ralph Lauren’s versatile history, the collection mixes heritage with utility and corduroy with rugged bleached denim. Taking notes from classic outerwear, this offering also features heavy-cotton jackets, cargo trousers and vest, alongside printed sweaters, shirts and caps, all of which arrive in a seasonal palette of cream, beige and blue.
“We worked with the [Ralph Lauren] team in their studio until we finally put something together that best represented a lifestyle for our customers,” continues Kyvetos. “We then edited the collection down to the ‘outdoor’ elements, focusing on this as something we see more integral not only to the Ralph Lauren, man but also to the Mytheresa man”.
Shot in the Bavarian Alps by photographer Patrick Houi, the lookbook accompanying this capsule reflects Ralph Lauren’s love of the outdoors and their pair’s penchant for design and style.
