Watch Raf Simons Debut His First In-House Womenswear Collection for SS21
Livestream the Belgian designer’s latest co-ed collection.
Following a well-received debut at Prada, Raf Simons is set to make some big moves at his own brand. For Spring/Summer 2021, the vaunted Belgian creative is set to introduce his first in-house womenswear collection, which will accompany his latest menswear designs.
Simons is well-versed in womenswear. The Martin Margiela devotee honed his craft at Jil Sander, Dior and finally Calvin Klein, overseeing womenswear at each company along with other responsibilities. Mostly acclaimed by critics, Simons’ womenswear offerings have been unilaterally relegated to his work for other brands, as the design team at his eponymous brand focuses exclusively on menswear (although his volumnious knits and outerwear are essentially genderless).
Spring/Summer 2021 will be Simons’ first in-house womenswear collection for this own brand and if it’s anything like his Prada range, which was admittedly tempered by co-creative director Miuccia Prada, it’ll stay true to Simons’ core design ethos. Expect youthful inspiration and some space-age influence, if his last runway show is anything to go off, unless Simons opts to veer into the punk or bookish tropes he occasionally toys with.
For now, Simons is focusing on expanding his label with an in-house footwear line dubbed (RUNNER).
