COMME des GARÇONS' Deconstructed Nike Air Force 1 Mid Is Almost Here

COMME des GARÇONS showcased its Nike Air Force 1 Mid collaboration earlier this year during its Fall/Winter 2020 runway show, and now the sneaker is finally ready to be released.
Appearing in two classic AF1 colorways — white or black — COMME des GARÇONS’ pair sees the iconic silhouette adopt plenty of the Rei Kawakubo-helmed label’s signature design elements and sensibilities. For example, the shoe was chosen by the designer because it is so heavily revered in the sneaker culture, playing into the FW20 collection’s name “Neo Future” as it would be difficult to create something completely new.
As a result, the CGD x AF1 Mid is familiar yet indebted by an avant-garde approach. Premium leather has been used all around, which has been cut out on the mid-panel to give the Swoosh, tongue, and collar a floating effect. Pieces of leather are finished with raw edges which further elevate the deconstructed aesthetic, while COMME des GARÇONS’ moniker has been stamped into the collar in contrasting colors.
Elsewhere, we find the Nike Air emblem on the heel, as well as tonal Air-equipped sole unit. The COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Air Force 1 Mid in black and white will drop on October 23 at Dover Street Market stores worldwide and on the DSM website. Pairs retail for $270 USD and will drop shortly thereafter at other COMME des GARÇONS stockists worldwide.
