Obongjayar Keeps Running with "God's Own Children" Music Video
Another standout single from his upcoming project ‘Which Way Is Forward?’
Obongjayar continues to impress with a steady slate of singles prepping the release of Which Way Is Forward?, out February 7 via September Recordings. After solidifying his name through stellar collaborations with Danny Brown, Kamasi Washington, Sampha and Giggs, the London-based artist by way of Nigeria returns with “God’s Own Children.” The soulful theme of life at a crossroads continues here thanks to literally running on a treadmill, body split in different directions behind looped VHS footage. The track follows November’s “Still Sun” which utilized a similar video aesthetic of a split screen intercut with original grade school childrens’ artwork.
“Which Way Is Forward? is a project about love, family, self empowerment and self belief,” Obongjayar shared via his official press statement. “It’s a mirror that allows you to look inward, to understand trauma, to heal. It’s a project about mustering the strength – the strength to get up and clean house.”
Obongjayar flawlessly fuses Afrobeat and even spoken word and exudes a thoughtful spiritual homage as he enlists “God’s Own Children” to keep their respective heads up and find inner strength. Watch the full Duncan Loudon-directed music video above and stream below.
