With the Lunar New Year taking place on January 25, we’ve seen a fair share of seasonal offerings ranging from sneakers to watches. But to help you make the best out of the occasion, we’ve rounded up the cream of the crop. Leading the 2020 list are Virgil Abloh‘s Off-White™ “LUNAR NEW COLLECTION” and the Nike Air Max 1 Premium “Chinese New Year Longevity,” along with Disney and Gucci‘s exclusive Mickey Mouse collection to celebrate the Year of the Rat.

Other apparel pieces include Burberry‘s updated TB monogram wool jacket, maharishi‘s “Year of the Rat” collection and the collaborative Marc Jacobs x Stray Rats capsule. For footwear, we also have the Vans x Zhao Zhao line, closed out by accessories from BAPE, Starbucks Japan‘s Lunar New Year drinkware range and Panerai‘s annual Luminor Sealand Lunar New Year watch.

Check out our top 10 picks for 2020’s Lunar New Year collections below, celebrating the Year of the Rat.

Off-White™ “LUNAR NEW YEAR” Collection

Virgil Abloh and Off-White™ are in high spirits with their seasonal “LUNAR NEW YEAR” collection, encompassing womenswear, menswear and accessories. Shades of black and red are prominent, with the latter hue representing fortune, good luck and joy. Common Off-White™ insignias including arrows and quotation also appear of course on hoodies, crewnecks, T-shirts and jeans, presented here alongside quirky illustrations of rats in honor of 2020’s zodiac symbol. Pink florals can also be found on the womenswear pieces, symbolizing wealth, longevity and beauty, while accessories like scarves, wallets, leather bags and socks are stamped with well wishes for the new year.

Nike Air Max 1 Premium “Chinese New Year Longevity”

Nike channeled traditional Chinese porcelain patterns for its Air Max 1 Premium “Chinese New Year Longevity” offering. Dipped in hues of pink, blue, orange and yellow, the shoe’s upper takes inspiration from tableware like the Double Happiness Bowl and Mi Tong Bowl, stitching together intricate motifs that represent eventful family reunions, wishes of healthy children and overall happiness. The design-heavy upper is contrasted by a simple black Air Max unit, along with an icy blue outsole that hides a Chinese character stamp cheekily translating to “Nike Official Kiln” — an ode to the dishes’ hand-fired nature and status symbol found underneath the porcelain items.

Starbucks Japan Lunar New Year Drinkware

Starbucks Japan’s Lunar New Year drinkware line is raking in all the good fortune and prosperity. The eight-piece collection is fronted by an ivory-hued coffee tumbler highlighting two maneki neko for prosperity, and a painting of Mount Fuji to start the new year with good fortune. Other offerings include a Mount Fuji-shaped mug and a red mug featuring a cartoonish mouse to pay homage to the Year of the Rat. The traditional Japanese daruma doll also makes multiple appearances, arriving as a green mug or gracing the artwork on a tumbler and thermos flask. Capping off the collection are lifestyle items like pouches spotlighting a maneki neko or a shiba inu, plus a Starbucks teddybear dressed as a daruma.

BAPE Lunar New Year Exclusive Gifts

BAPE is offering a selection of limited gifts perfect for the Lunar New Year. You can pick up a 2020 Ape Head-shaped calendar complete with all 12 months and different BAPE CAMO prints for $324 USD at select BAPE locations. Themed Baby Milo stickers are also included to mark special days on the calendar. For a more traditional feel, a $231 USD purchase will get you “Red Packets” dipped in a split pattern of BAPE’s signature 1ST CAMO in green and red, along with a gold embossed Ape Head logo. The flap features a Shark Face logo for a stunning finish, packed in a clear plastic zipped pouch embossed with a Shark Face on one side and “WGM” (World Gone Mad) on the other. Lastly, a BAPE Store Hong Kong-exclusive Candy Box will also be up for grabs.

Disney x Gucci Mickey Mouse Collection

Mickey Mouse is the face of Disney and Gucci’s collaborative Lunar New Year collection — what better way to celebrate the Year of the Rat than with the most famous one of them all? (Though naysayers will add that Mickey’s technically not a rat). Comprised of timeless menswear staples, the selection features a GG Supreme coated canvas coat sprinkled with all-over Mickeys atop Gucci’s interlocking logo, a trim-fitting short-sleeved wool shirt that highlights a Mickey appliqué on the chest pocket and a lightweight, summer-ready cotton gauze shirt with prints of Mickey and Minnie.

Panerai Luminor Sealand Lunar New Year Watch

Panerai is continuing its long-standing tradition of Lunar New Year offerings with a commemorative Luminor Sealand watch for the Year of the Rat. Sitting at 44mm in case size, the watch is protected by a brushed steel case cover decorated using the ancient Italian technique of sparsello. Little incisions are made using a scalpel then filled in with gold threads and hammered flat, timing the entire process at over 50 hours. The Luminor Sealand is powered by the P. 9010 Caliber movement that features a three-day power reserve and 100 meters of water resistance, finally finished off with a gold semi-matte calf strap with beige stitching.

Vans x Zhao Zhao “Year of the Rat” Collection

Artist Zhao Zhao, former assistant to Ai Weiwei, has linked up with Vans for its Lunar New Year “Year of the Rat” collection. The first look offers the Sk8-Hi, Era Lacey and Comfycush Slip-Skool silhouettes, with each shoe exhibiting the perspective of a street rat’s life in the city. The Era Lacy arrives with monotone suede construction and a conceptualized rat hole penetrating from toe to heel, while the Sk8-Hi is designed to resemble a network for underground tunnels — a familiar scene for the titular zodiac sign. Finally, the Comfycush Slip-Skool highlights a network graphic upper underneath a translucent layer, adding a different layer of texture for the silhouette. Each pair still features the iconic heel branding, this time modified by a multi-layered “Off the Wall” rubber heel stamp to signify the rat’s tail.

Burberry Contrast Sleeve Monogram Motif Wool Bomber Jacket

Burberry is updating its legendary TB monogram in celebration of the Year of the Rat. The luxury fashion house’s seasonal offering sees the titular creature integrated in the motif of its distinct bomber jacket, the brown contrasting the pure wool body’s stark shade of red. Creamy white leather sleeves and sports-inspired insignias make for additional detailing on the front and reverse, along with hints of black and red on the elasticated collar, hem and sleeve cuffs. Finishing touches include side jet pockets in and press-stud buttons for a closed look.

maharishi Lunar New Year “Year of the Rat” Capsule

maharishi is paying respects to the new cycle in the zodiac calendar with its “Lunar Year of the Rat” collection, lead by an exclusive Stadium Jacket embroidered with woodblock-inspired imagery on the back. An intricate colorway of red, black and gold lands on maharishi’s Tour shirt, while a recurring “Metal Rat” motif crawls its way on the leg of the Italian cotton track pants. Other rat insignias can be found printed on T-shirts, along with designs that draw inspiration from Yangzhou paper-cutting. Vegetable-dyed Japanese Twill Cupro bandanas round out the collection, highlighting the “Metal Rat” pattern for 2020.

Marc Jacobs x Stray Rats Lunar New Year Collaboration

Frank Ocean leads Marc Jacobs and Stray Rats’ collaborative Lunar New Year campaign, which exhibits sporting casual goods with grunge-like aesthetics. Alongside Ocean, Stray Rats founder Julian Consuegra, Alison Boregard, Nathalie Nguyen and Rhylli show off the range’s pieces that were inspired by various styles from the “M*Archive,” resulting in a line that simultaneously pays homage to Jacobs’ early 2000s “Stinky Rat” collection and celebrates the 2020 zodiac animal. The collaborative, laid-back capsule highlights colorblocked green/blue and pink/red sweaters alongside simple zip-up hoodies and T-shirts, all of which have been embellished with imagery of rats and logos of both brands.
