WACKO MARIA Reimagines Subtropical Prints and Traditional Japanese Motifs In Latest Shirts

Off the heels of its FW19 lookbook, Japanese label WACKO MARIA has returned to showcase another set of Hawaiian shirts emblazoned with subtropical prints and traditional Japanese motifs.
First up is a set of collaborative shirts with tattoo artist Tim Lehi. Seen over a black and light brown base, Lehi’s intricately detailed artwork of tigers and bamboo trees are placed sporadically throughout the body. The shirt comes with an open ’50s-style collar, complemented by two flap pockets at the chest. Other details like hazel-toned buttons and thin top-stitching along the hem round up the garment.
The next piece is a Hawaiian shirt with all the same cuts — long-sleeve construction and double chest pockets — as the aforementioned button up. A series of vibrant floral prints have been applied over black and burgundy foundations, highlighted in contrasting shades of green, yellow, red, light blue and grey. To finish off each piece, all the shirts come with a woven inner label etched with “THE GUILTY PARTIES” branding in a sleek cursive typeface.
