Original Story (August 30, 2019): Just in time for a new school year, rapper Juice WRLD and producer Benny Blanco have joined forces to reminisce on past high school experiences in their new single “Graduation.”
The catchy song includes an auto-tuned cover of Vitamin C’s well-known “Friends Forever” as the chorus – a song most known for its appearances at graduation ceremonies across the world. Borrowed lyrics include “as we go on we remember / all the times we spent together,” a melody that instantly comes back to memory even without hearing the song for years.
Juice WRLD adds his own twist to the graduation day classic by recounting various high school crushes and heartbreaks he had throughout his teen years, including humorous snippets like, “I’m information leaker, had a crush on one of my teachers / Used to fantasize, makin’ love with her behind the bleachers / And to all the people who ain’t like me, I ain’t like me either.” The upbeat track is new territory for Juice WRLD, as his most popular songs like “Lucid Dreams” typically take a more emo approach to heartbreak.
