Idris Elba Talks 'The Wire' Role and Speaks Cockney Slang in 'Hot Ones'
Elba pretended to be American to get casted as Stringer Bell.
Idris Elba is the latest star to get stuck into some wings on Sean Evans‘ Hot Ones, discussing everything from his 20-plus years in showbusiness to cockney rhyming slang.
Elba sits down with Evans to eat some of the hottest hot wings around, doing relatively well until around the 100,000 Scoville level range, which is where Scotch Bonnets begin. After successfully eating some hot wings, Idris Elba discusses his career and humble beginnings from starring on The Wire — in which we find out that he pretended to be American to get casted as Stringer Bell on the show — to starring alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Hobbs & Shaw.
The star also discusses the UK Hip-Hop scene and its legends, cockney rhyming slang to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats and more. Catch Idris Elba in First We Feast‘s Hot Ones above.
