Guillermo del Toro's ‘Antlers’ Teases a Dark Folklore Horror Tale
Something sinister lurks.
The folk horror subgenre has been gaining traction once again. Following Ari Aster’s MIDSOMMAR released earlier this summer, horror fans can now look forward to the Guillermo del Toro-produced Antlers.
The first teaser trailer was shared earlier today by Fox Searchlight and centers on a small-town Oregon teacher (portrayed by Keri Russell) and her brother, the town sheriff, (played by Jesse Plemons of Breaking Bad) who discover a young student is hiding a dark secret. Shown within the trailer’s short two-minutes are cryptic scenes, horrifying drawings, and some sort of demonic creature eating what looks to be humans. A voice over by the young student is played throughout the clips as he tells his version of The Three Bears.
Antlers is based off of Nick Antosca’s short story The Quiet Boy. Antosca, along with Henry Chaisson, helped to pen the screenplay.
Directed by Scott Cooper, Antlers stars Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons, Graham Greene and Amy Madigan. Look for Antlers to hit the big screen in 2020.
