Young Thug, who recently remixed Lil Nas X‘s “Old Town Road” with viral yodeller Mason Ramsey, has said that X “shouldn’t have told the world” that he was gay.

Prior to his remix release, Young Thug spoke with No Jumper podcaster Adam22 at Wireless Festival earlier this month in which he discussed Lil Nas X coming out to the world. He said he is not speaking from a homophobic perspective, instead repeatedly noting his respect for the rising rapper and how he is concerned what backlash Lil Nas X could face.

Young Thug said in the interview:

“I feel like he probably shouldn’t have told the world. He shouldn’t have told the world. These days, motherf*ckers, it’s just all judgment. Motherf*ckers is just judging. It ain’t even about the music no more. Once you found out he was gay, as soon as the song come on now, everybody like, ‘This gay-ass n*gga.’ N*ggas don’t even care to listen to the song no more… It’s just like, to certain people, you know what I’m saying?…”

“I just feel like he young, and backlash can come behind anything. [His coming out] wasn’t a bad idea, and it was most definitely the best time to do it, during Pride. That was the best time to do it. That was a G’s move. But he young, and I know he going to be dealing with it in his mind. I dealt with this sh*t before. I know what he dealing with. So I was like, ‘F*ck, he should have never said that, never should have told them’.”

“I really f*ck with Lil Nas X. He already showed me the most respect by saying that I inspired him. So I ain’t even caring to get in his way. I want him to get, like, a trillion dollars. I want him to get more money than me.”

Listen to what Young Thug has to say about Lil Nas X around the 15-minute mark in the interview above. The Atlanta rapper also touched on an upcoming album drop, as well as comparing Juice WRLD to Lil Wayne stating “he’ll never run out of nothing to say because he’s that smart.”

In other news, Young Thug has jumped onto Lil Duke’s Blue Devil 2 album.
