Taylor McFerrin Announces 'Love's Last Chance' LP & Drops "Now That You Need Me"
His first proper solo album in five years.
Five years after the release of his debut studio album Early Riser, multi-talented, genre-bending musician Taylor McFerrin is revealing plans for his sophomore project. Known as Love’s Last Chance, McFerrin’s next LP will see release later this summer and is billed as his first album with his own vocals on it. To introduce Love’s Last Chance and its sonic direction, the NYC-born artist is serving up its lead single, “Now That You Need Me.”
“About a year ago I decided to name my new album Love’s Last Chance and the title shaped the direction of the whole project,” Taylor McFerrin shares, breaking down his forthcoming album and it themes. “It really came into focus for me these past few years that in life you don’t get a million chances to get love right, and sometimes with both your art and your relationships you realize that it’s now or never.”
“The first single, ‘Now That You Need Me,’ is all about giving up on the dreams of the person you’re in a relationship with, but I wrote it like it was a letter I came home to, with someone giving up on me,” McFerrin adds, opening up about today’s release. “In a way this song is the heart of the record because I needed to feel that dark side creeping up on me to find a deeper reason to finish this project. The instrumental part of the song is actually meant to sound like the soundtrack for someone who is on the other side of making that choice and feeling great about it, like they’re riding down the coast in a convertible feeling totally free.”
