Nike's Tailwind 79 "Vast Grey/Mystic Navy" Is An Understated Classic
Using its original Air unit design from 1978.

Beaverton has taken another spin on the silhouette that made its name during the 1978 Honolulu Marathon, this time dressing the Tailwind 79 up in an understated classic colorway reminiscent of the brand’s Killshot 2 with J.Crew.
On the upper, a light cream textile base and clean white laces provide a subtle contrast with the “Vast Grey” leather panelling by the toe, the heel counter and the lace guards, leading up to the signature orange logo on the tongue. A vintage touch comes in the form of a “Mystic Navy” Swoosh, which takes the deep blue shade around the rear of the shoe and into the collar lining, with a starkly contrasting white “NIKE” logo bolded by the upper heel. The upper then sits on a pristine white midsole and a brown rubber outsole wrapping up onto the toe and behind the heel, together housing the same Air unit Nike used for the ‘78 marathon.
For those interested in this vintage colorway of the Tailwind 79, it is now available over at Feature for $90 USD.
Elsewhere in sneakers, Nike has given its Air Max 720 a “Wolf Grey” monochromatic makeover.
