Idris Elba Unveils 'YARDIE Mixtape' Inspired By His Directorial Debut 'YARDIE'
“This mixtape is the aftershock of ‘YARDIE’ … it was a true collaboration.”

Back in March, Idris Elba linked up with Wiley, Sean Paul and Stefflon Don for the official music video in support of their collaborative single “Boasty.” Now, the acclaimed jack of all trades is back with a new musical project. Specifically, Elba is sharing a new mixtape inspired by the 2018 British crime drama and his directorial debut YARDIE. Fittingly-titled Idris Elba Presents: The YARDIE Mixtape, this latest release contains 14 original tracks, including records from Zed Bias, Mala, Toddla T, Newham Generals, Chip, Breakage, Cadenza and others. Idris Elba himself makes multiple appearances on his The YARDIE Mixtape, with three of the project’s songs featuring a contribution from him. Each of the 14 cuts included on Idris Elba Presents: The YARDIE Mixtape also samples YARDIE‘s dialogue and the film’s original score.
“Making a film as director allowed me, for the first time, to influence the music, in this case reggae,” Idris Elba shares via an official statement, revealing the back-story behind The YARDIE Mixtape. “I had the best seat in the house, music and film. So this mixtape is the aftershock of YARDIE, a collection of tunes that extends my love affair with the film. It was a true collaboration and everyone on the tape could relate to YARDIE.”
