Thom Yorke Releases Dystopian Shortfilm 'ANIMA' on Netflix
Featuring songs from the artist’s third solo album.
Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke has released a short film titled ANIMA, following the release of his third solo album titled under the same name.
ANIMA was directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and includes choreography developed by Damien Jalet, known for his work in Luca Guadagnino’s 2018 Suspiria adaptation, which also featured music composed by Yorke.
The short film is soundtracked by music from the ANIMA album such as “Not the News,” “Traffic,” and “Dawn Chorus,” each of which channel Yorke’s dystopian-electro sound. The album was the product of Yorke’s time spent understanding anxiety and the short film’s visuals are equally eerie and atmospheric.
ANIMA features the actress Dajana Roncione (Yorke’s current girlfriend), as well as the Swedish GöteborgsOperans dance company, which sees the cast in Prague and the Les Baux-de-Provence. ANIMA follows Yorke as he falls asleep on the underground, who soon finds himself unable to exit the train station. Leaping over the gate, Yorke joins the cast in a surreal world and dances to the music of ANIMA. Watch the short film on Netflix now.
