Khabib Nurmagomedov: Conor McGregor Doesn't Deserve a Rematch
McGregor reportedly begged the Russian champ not to kill him.
In October of last year, Russian reigning UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov destroyed Conor McGregor at UFC 229.
During a recent press conference in London to promote his upcoming UFC 242 fight against Dustin Poirier, Nurmagomedov shared a few details about the fight that saw McGregor tapping out in the fourth round. The fighter first touched upon the duo’s post-fight brawl stating he has no regrets about it, to which he then stated McGregor doesn’t deserve a rematch. “In the last three years, he has only one victory in amateur boxing,” Khabib told the assembled press. “How does he deserve a rematch? He tapped.”
Nurmagomedov then went on to reveal that McGregor begged the Russian not to kill him during their UFC clash. “He begged me, ‘Please don’t kill me.’ Now we talking about a rematch?” He continued, “Tony Ferguson’s on the line. People who have win streaks [are] on the line. Not the guy who don’t win [anything in the] last three years.”
Both Nurmagomedov and McGregor received suspensions for their post-UFC 229 brawl. However Nurmagomedov will make his return when he fights against Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi on September 7. On the other-hand, McGregor’s UFC future is currently unknown after he announced his retirement in March.
