Joji Drops the Video for "Sanctuary" (Update)
The 88rising star drops his first single of 2019.
UPDATE: The music video for Joji’s “Sanctuary” is here. The visual, which is directed by Eoin Glaister, finds the artist in a melancholic space odyssey that tells the story of “Captain Joji,” a space ranger who travels across lightyears to defeat his arch nemesis.
ORIGINAL STORY: Joji has released his first single of 2019, “Sanctuary.” His first single post-BALLADS 1, the 88rising star continues to hone his musicality, utilizing the full potential of his vocal range with harmonized falsettos over a synth-fueled melody. Despite sticking to his guns and crafting another love-stricken ballad, there’s a noticeable shift in Joji’s lyricism as he veers away from straightforward confessions to more poetic verses — “Souls that dream alone lie awake / I’ll give you something so real.” As he looks for honest-to-goodness love in a city built on false hope, he adds assurance for his potential lover, “Not anyone, you’re the one / More than fun, you’re the Sanctuary / Cause what you want is what I want / Sincerity.”
