Bristol Studio and adidas Originals are back in sync for Summer 2019 with another basketball-centric collaboration, preparing to release a capsule stocked with retro apparel pieces and the fan-favorite BYW sneaker. This latest match-up sees Venice Beach, California setting the backdrop and tone for the collection, allowing the warm and cool shades of the boardwalk and basketball courts to mesh seamlessly with the throwback track suits, T-shirts and slides.

The assortment includes nine pieces altogether, with highlights including the classic Three Stripes-branded track jacket and pants, jersey-inspired graphic tees, and the color-blocked french terry hoodie and shorts. Bristol Studio creative director Luke Tadashi recalled memories of his childhood bike rides to come up with the muted color palette, infusing the range with hues of blue, green, coral and green throughout. The BYW LVL II shoe, meanwhile, makes up one of the most neutral items in the bunch, crafted in white leather and mesh on the upper with select elements coated in peach, forest green and grey.

“As kids, my two best friends, MAASAI [Ephriam] and London [Perrantes], and I would ride our bikes through Venice to hoop with the adults in Venice Beach. We’d do this practically every day in the summer, it was our ritual. This collection recaptures that time in our youth. The young kids who modeled the collection are all family, related to either Luke, MAASAI or London,” Tadashi said.

The Bristol Studio x adidas Originals SS19 Collection is available now at Bristol Studio’s webstore and select adidas Consortium accounts.

It will roll out to adidas’ webstore beginning June 29 at 3 a.m. EST.

Business of HYPE recently caught up with Tadashi, who discussed how he went from college basketball to breaking into design.
