Lauded streetwear giant BAPE has unleashed a new collection full of “retro sci-fi” denim and patch-heavy T-shirts for Spring/Summer 2020.
Dubbed “The Return of Icarus,” the capsule is comprised of nine different items including a jacket, shirt, tees and jeans. Inspired by the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes, the film’s references are heavily seen throughout the collection along with incorporating streetwear characteristics and silhouettes from the 70’s and 80’s. Additionally, the iconic “ICARUS” spacecraft is also featured throughout.
Both the denim jacket and shirt are embellished with numerous patches placed on the sleeves, chest and front portions. The jacket also sports an additional vintage twisted rope lettering on its backside to spell out “Bathing Ape.” Two different T-shirts are also part of the lineup, one seeing patches throughout, while the other sports simple BAPE logos emblazoned on. Finally the collection is rounded out with three different denim fits: Skinny Fit Damaged Jeans; Regular Fit Labelled Taps Jeans; and Regular Fit Crazy Patch Jeans.
The skinny jeans offers a slim fit with washed and ripped effects. The two regular fits differentiate by a red line running down the Labelled Taps, while the Crazy Patch is dressed with a cascade of patches. Check out the lookbook above and product shots below.
“The Return of Icarus” collection will pre-release at BAPE’ Hong Kong locations this Saturday, June 22. A global release will then follow on Saturday, July 20.
