South London’s Oscar Jerome has returned for 2019 with the release of his latest single “Gravitate,” accompanied by an intimate live performance video directed by CHILD Studio. The musician was a finalist in Glastonbury’s emerging talent competition and has since released a string of jazz-influenced singles.
“Gravitate” features Ezra Collective‘s Joe Armon-Jones on the piano and several members of Kokoroko — the London-based Afrobeat 8-piece band in which Jerome is also the lead guitarist. The track is one of his most energetic to date and is his first since signing with Caroline International.
Speaking on the track, Jerome says, “This pays homage to a lot of the pioneers of the British broken beats genre as well as a lot of my soul, jazz and rock influences. The subject matter is both cosmic and personal. I reference a lot of imagery of the early life of a star in space as well as ideas of individuality and self-acceptance.”
Take a look at the video for “Gravitate” above, where you can see Oscar Jerome and his band perform the electro-jazz fusion in the studio. Oscar Jerome followed up the release of his latest single with the announcement of a 15-date EU tour, which you can find out more about below.
