CELINE Enlists Artist Christian Marclay for Pop Art-Inspired Capsule
Reworking everything from outerwear to jewelry.
CELINE has launched its Christian Marclay Ready-to-Wear collaboration for Spring/Summer 2019. The capsule collection sees Hedi Slimane‘s clean-cut looks for both men and women get reworked with the pop art-style pieces from Marclay.
Swiss-American artist Christian Marclay is best known for his Tate Modern-showcased piece “The Clock”, a 24 hour installation exploring time, narrative and cinematic history. Taking his hand to CELINE’s RTW line, the artist has added paintings and comic book collages to a full range of pieces, utilizing couture embroidery techniques, appliquéd patches and printing methods.
Standout pieces from the SS19 capsule include the “WHOOMOOOOM” patch military parka, the classic CELINE calfskin biker jacket adorned with a “ZZHAA” patch and, finally, a Teddy Blouson jacket featuring all-over multicolored sequin work and couture embroidery. The collection forms part of Hedi Slimane’s “CELINE Art Project,” a program which sees the label work alongside artists to create multi-medium pieces.
