WANTO Throws-Up Bombastic Tags In Latest adidas Originals Collaboration
Alongside an immersive “I WANT CANDI” art exhibition in NYC.

Last year, we were graced with WANTO‘s graffiti emblazoned across a slew of adidas Originals x UNITED ARROWS & SONS FW18 pieces. The legendary artist has returned for another collaboration with the German sportswear giant once again, tagging his signature over a series of functional Adidas silhouettes.
WANTO is a Tokyo artist who has garnered much attention for being one of the leading influences of modern graffiti in Asia. His works are often likened to that of a ’90s-American style, with various tags and throw-ups of his signature “W” tag. For this collection, WANTO set out to create a series of athletic garments suited for nocturnal activities.
The adidas Originals x WANTO Spring/Summer 2019 collection sees an assemblage of WANTO motifs, marked with subtle hand drawings. Featured pieces include a blacked-out iteration of the adidas Yung-1 silhouette, matching tracksuits and athletic T-shirts. The Yung-1 is dominated in black, while yellow accents appear throughout. Apart from its breathable mesh overlay, Gore-tex fabrics cover most of the upper, finished off by a tonal midsole.
The track top comes with three stripes on each arm made from 3M material, complemented with yellow piping; its matching pants include the stripes at the sides. Another piece is the white T-shirt that displays the subtle three-stripes branding under the sleeves. WANTO’s signature tag is emblazoned in yellow across each piece, rounding up the artist’s bombastic tags in garment form.
An immersive art exhibition dubbed “I WANT CANDI” will be held in New York at the adidas Brooklyn Farm space. Alongside pieces in the collection, the activation will house a series of one-of-a-kind products and prints as well as interactive workshops.
The exhibition will be open to the public from May 23 – 24 during hours 3 – 9PM EST, while the collection will be available for purchase on May 30 at Adidas’ website.
