Last November, Smino released his sophomore studio album Noir via Zero Fatigue, Downtown Record and Interscope, having originally announced the project a couple of weeks before using a hard-hitting freestyle video. Now, the rising young rapper is revisiting that LP for his latest visual. Specifically, Smino is teaming up with directors HaitianEv and Henny for the official “Z4L” music video, which also gives viewers at Smino’s current tour-life as he makes his way across the United States for his Hoopti. Produced by Monte Booker, “Z4L” — which stands for “Zero For Life” — features Smino’s Zero Fatigue cohorts Bari and Jay2, both of whom worked with Simon on the 2017 track “Manegos.”

“I felt like he was limitless. I don’t like limitations. He can make anything. It’s damn near sickening,” Smino told Rolling Stone last year, sharing his thoughts on his “Z4L” collaborator and producer Monte Booker. “He’s too good at making beats. I never seen nobody make beats like that.”

“I just didn’t want to make the same album. The music sounds fun as hell. I ain’t gonna say what it is and what it ain’t. It’s raw as f*ck,” Smino added, opening up about Noir and his current creative direction and plans. ”I’m about to flood the court, flood the market. I got too many sounds. I didn’t want to put that shit out, somebody get inspired by it, and they go with the sound somewhere else. Now motherf*ckers know me. So shit, I’ma just put my music out. I’m more of an album artist. I got some shit. I ain’t aiming at the radio. It change so much, if you aim for it, you be behind. It’s running targets. Shoot ahead of them bitches. My next one after this one is a good chunk of done.”
