UPDATE: Watch Jessie Reyez and 6LACK's Powerful "Imported" Video
Two of this era’s brightest young stars unite.
Update: The video for Jessie Reyez and 6LACK’s “Imported” Remix is out now. The video was “shot and chopped” by Zac Facts. Watch it above.
Original Story: A few months after reconnecting with her close collaborator Eminem for the music video in support of their 2018 track “Good Guy,” Jessie Reyez recruits 6LACK for the official rework of her Hennedub-produced Being Human In Public standout “Imported.” Originally delivered to us in October of last year, Being Human In Public provided seven new songs, including the aforementioned cut and a remix of “Body Count” featuring Kehlani and Normani. The official EP version of “Imported” also featured a contribution from JRM, another talented young singer.
For his take on the content of “Imported,” 6LACK croons about a girl he’s attempting to woo, singing about making her his “biggest secret” and taking her away from her significant other — even if it’s just for a few nights of fun. “You important, I’m important / Make a movie, let’s record it,” 6LACK sings. “Came a long way from a Honda / Tryna f*ck you in some Porsches, baby.”
“It’s just a matter of vibe/freestyling and jamming by myself or with whoever I’m fortunate enough to work with. At one point something comes out — a melody or a lyric that feels potent — and then I know to follow that rabbit,” Jessie Reyez told Coup De Main at the beginning of 2018, opening up about her creative process and how songs like “Imported” are brought to life. “A good song may matter today, but in 60 years will it matter? Will your great-great grandkids sing it? I think the test of time makes a great song.”
