Unlike Fall/Winter 2018’s collaboration, the latest team-up between Hender Scheme and adidas Originals looks toward a pair of fairly niche sneakers for Spring/Summer 2019. The Sobakov and Lacombe each receive a black, beige or white-toned makeover, complete with lavish leather detailing crafted by hand in designer Ryo Kashiwazaki’s atelier.

While the mainline SS19 offering merely hinted at classic sneakers via the HOMAGE series, the adidas Originals by Hender Scheme range delivers proper remakes of several key adidas silhouettes. As such, the new takes on the Sobakov and Lacombe‘ retain their familiar branding and Three Stripes detailing. Instead of creating wholly new silhouettes, the drop focuses on executing these archival styles to the highest standard possible, keeping in line with Hender Scheme’s standard of extreme quality.

A shoe enriched by the history of tennis, the Lacombe debuted in 2016 as part of the SPZL line, blending elements of the signature Rod Laver and John Newcombe sneakers into one trim design. The black and white editions feature similar accents: hand-punched broguing near the toe, ribbons of leather woven through the Three Stripes branding at the midsole and vegetable-tanned panels at the tongue and heel. While the black sneaker is tonal except for the aforementioned panels, the other shoe offers a white upper with veg-tanned accents and a beige midsole.

Like the Lacombe, the two Sobakov designs offer plenty of bespoke detailing, guaranteeing that no two pairs are identical. A two-way leather lace cover sports minute, gold foil Hender Scheme branding, matching the veg-tanned hues of the Three Stripes and the earthy gum outsole. A black and beige iteration enjoy tonal laces and leather sockliners, making for a sleek take on the soccer-indebted design.

Take a closer look at the sneakers on the adidas Originals by Hender Scheme site and expect them to hit stockists like Farfetch on April 26. Stay tuned for more collaborative drops as the season wears on and take a closer look at the Lacombe and Sobakov below.

Elsewhere, adidas Originals launched a branded suede take on the NMD_R1.
