Tierra Whack Airs Out Her Frustrations with Los Angeles for "Wasteland"
“So that song is about me hating LA so much.”
Fresh off the release of “Gloria” and her late-night television debut, Tierra Whack is back with another new single. This time around, the fast-rising artist is serving up a track about her aversion to typical Los Angeles culture, “Wasteland.” Notably, “Wasteland” also serves as our fourth taste of Tierra Whack’s forthcoming studio album, as well as her fourth single in 2019 alone.
“So that song is about me hating LA so much,” Tierra Whack explains to Zane Lowe for an exclusive Beats 1 exchange. “And you know, because you come to LA for the first time, you’re like, oh it’s nice, but then you realize how industry it is and it just, I mean, no place feels like home, of course, which is Philly for me. But every time I’m in LA, I’m doing work. I’m working.”
“It’s industry,” Tierra Whack adds, elaborating on her distaste for her experience in Los Angeles. “So it’s just like, yo, no matter how long I’m here, how much I have to work here, I probably never really … Want to live here … connect, ’cause I know this is just work. But I turned that into me saying, if I was to meet a guy in LA, I wouldn’t take him serious because it’s Hollywood, everybody’s an actor. Everybody wants to be a star. So that’s the approach I had with that song.”
