'One-Punch Man' Season 2 Receives an Official Release Date
Earth’s strongest hero returns.
The highly-anticipated Season 2 of the critically acclaimed anime One-Punch Man has finally received an exact release date. Gaming site NNE SAGA posted on Twitter recently that the hairless superhero will make a return on April 9, more than three years after the debut of Season 1.
Starting off as just a parody of popular shonen manga series like Dragon Ball Z, One Punch Man finds its origins as a self-published webcomic. However, its popularity gained traction quickly, hastily picked up by Shonen Jump, one of Japan’s largest manga magazines. The project quickly snowballed, branching out with subtitled versions and eventually developed into the beloved anime series we see today.
Departing from its production house for Season 1, the second season is being directed by Chikara Sakurai, whose work includes numerous Naruto: Shippuden movies. J.C. Staff, best known for Food Wars! and Toradora!, will work on animation for Saitama’s return.
While the trailer for Season 2 — which you can check out above — reveals very little details on its storyline, it does introduce a new villain named Garou. Briefly mentioned at the end of Season 1, Garou is hailed to be Earth’s strongest fighter. Fans can rest assured that Saitama will surely be contesting for that title in the upcoming season.
For anime fans out there, Netflix has also dropped an action-packed trailer for the upcoming Ultraman series.
