Casbia and Champion Release Basketball-Influenced "Century" Collection
Offered in four colorways.

After recently unveiling its Spring/Summer 2019 “Rituals” collection, inspired by the rituals of sporting icons, Champion has returned to celebrate its 100th anniversary through a collaboration with Italian shoemaker Casbia. The Casbia x Champion “Century” collection merged together inspiration from ’70s and ’90s-era basketball in order to present a new sneaker silhouette that encompasses style and tech.
Like the name of the collection, the new model is entitled the “Century” and is presented in a high-top silhouette across four colorways. The sneaker’s upper is unconstructed and features a vulcanized toecap meant to be reminiscent of the retro court shoes popularized by Dr. J in the 1970s. Moving down to the midsole reveals a jagged, chunky base, which plays up the “more is more” aesthetic of the ’90s (a time when Champion was the official jersey supplier of the NBA), as explained in a press release. From there, each shoe differs in material and color in order to highlight different aspects of the sport.
The rich “China Red” edition is offered in a stonewashed jersey-like textile, and boasts double laces as a symbol of the “larger-than-live vibrance of modern NBA stars.” Next, the “OG Crust” comes in a classic white canvas, recalling the simplicity of the original basketball shoes. ”Tarmac” offers up another neutral option, this iteration in all-black canvas with inner suede quarter panels. Finally, the “Concrete” version boasts a suede outer lined with premium leather, an indication of the moment “canvas shoes hit the bench.” Each sneaker is completed with phylon outsoles and Centenary celebrative embroidery on the tongue.
Retailing for $179 USD per pair, the Casbia x Champion SS19 collection is available now on Casbia’s website and at select retailers worldwide.
