The upcoming entry in SEGA‘s Yakuza series: Like a Dragon, is mere weeks away from its Japan release date, and as such, a new trailer has dropped featuring all new gameplay footage of protagonist Ichiban Kasuga and his party members.
Although the trailer is primarily in Japanese, the footage showcases the franchise’s new turn-based RPG mechanics, including some over-the-top special attacks that range from party members conducting wrestling moves to choking men out with photo ID lanyard.
The title will take players out of its usual Kamurocho setting and take them to Yokohama, which will be three times the size of the previous game’s location. However, the franchise will still retain some of the same activities, like throwing darts and other mini games that grant in-game cash.
“Yakuza: Like a Dragon is much more than just a new chapter in the Yakuza series. Much like the new English title itself, Yakuza: Like a Dragon is a complete reimagining of the franchise, a landmark to coincide with the series’ 15th anniversary,” Sony said about the game when it was first announced. “With the bulk of the game taking place in the large-scale, painstakingly-realized setting of Ijincho in Yokohama, players will explore an entirely new side of Japan never-before-seen in the series. Not only that, but Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s combat system has undergone a major overhaul, combining Yakuza’s established brawling action with a turn-based RPG battle system.”
Yakuza: Like a Dragon is slated to release on PlayStation 4 in Japan on January 16 with a wider release planned later in 2020.
