Better Gift Shop & Roots Celebrate 60 Years of Motown Records With Special Varsity Jacket

Motown Records is celebrating its 60th year in the game. Last month, we saw an exclusive collaboration with Carhartt WIP, spanning everything from graphic T-shirts to button-ups. This time around, however, the record company is putting all its focus on a single varsity jacket, with help from Better Gift Shop and the Canadian heritage label Roots — featured is a limited-edition 60th-anniversary varsity jacket.
Manufactured at Roots’ leather factory in Toronto, Canada, the jacket comes in rich delicate navy-toned melton wool, complemented by cream-colored Italian leather sleeves. The back of the jacket features an arched “MOTOWN” felt patch sewn at the top, followed by its “M” logo and “Better Gift Shop” branding below. Coming with sleek tonal central snap buttons, the front of the jacket sees a large “B” patch sewn over the upper left chest, contrasted by “Motown / 60th Anniversary / 1959 – 2019 Detroit, U.S.A.” embroidery on the right side. One noteworthy highlight of the jacket is all the tight-woven patches placed along the sleeves, etched with graphic logos of some of Motown’s sub-labels. As a finishing note, the garment is lined with sleek nylon, while brown and beige-striped ribbing appears at the collars, cuffs and hem.
The Better Gift Shop x Roots x Motown Records 60th Anniversary Varsity Jacket is currently available at Better Gift Shop’s website, its Toronto Flagship and its Dover Street Market Los Angeles outpost for $900 USD. In January 2020, the jacket will be available at Dover Street Market Ginza, New York and London.
