'Overwatch 2' Unveiled at Blizzcon With Dramatic Cinematic Trailer
Alongside a gameplay trailer that showcases new maps, missions and heroes.
Having announced earlier this year that it was pausing the development of first-person-shooter Starcraft to finish Diablo IV and Overwatch 2, Blizzard revealed the release of Overwatch 2 this week with two trailers: one cinematic, one gameplay.
The massively popular FPS, complete with clothing collabs, cookbooks, real-life replicas and crime rings, will finally see a sequel, as announced at Blizzcon 2019 earlier this week. This second installment will feature all-new maps, heroes and modes, including player-versus-environment and a new player-versus-player called “Push.”
In the cinematic trailer above, Mei, Tracer and Winston land in Paris to help protect civilians from the robotic soldiers of Null Sector, but when a building-sized omnic approaches, and the battle seems lost, their absent Overwatch teammates arrive to help wall off the city. Then, in the gameplay trailer, we see that the fight doesn’t just end in Paris but that it spans the entire globe. Throughout the three-minute video we get a glimpse at new story missions, co-op play, tricks, weapons, maps and heroes, including Sojourn, the franchise’s first black character.
On Blizzcon’s site, the developer assures that “your accomplishments and loot collections will be carried forward to Overwatch 2. That means you’ll keep your skins, player icons, sprays, emotes, and more!”
