Nike Salutes Legendary Coach Kay Yow With Special Air Force 1
Created for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
To support the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, Nike has released a special Air Force 1 “Kay Yow.” A Basketball Hall of Fame-enshrined coach who made her mark leading the NC State women’s basketball team from 1975 until her passing in 2009, Yow’s name and legacy live on through her aforementioned organization. Since 2007, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has provided funding for cancer research and also offered assistance to offer underserved women who struggle with the disease. Therefore, the pairing between iconic basketball silhouette and beloved coach seems only proper.
True to past Yow-centric Nike releases, this Air Force 1 uses a rich pink hue on its upper. Here, however, it’s applied in an appealing alternate fashion, thanks to soft airbrush style fades that make room for contrasting crisp white tones. The Swoosh detailing is doubled up, with a perforated iteration taking a normal place on the quarter and a thickly embroidered drop Swoosh appearing directly below.
Pink ribbon laces offer a thoughtfully direct nod to the fight against cancer. Hits of navy on the tongue badge and heel provide accenting color, and a small ribbon graphic appears directly under the heel tab as well. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund’s mission statement appears on the insoles, and a classic white midsole with pink detailing completes the look.
The Nike Air Force 1 “Kay Yow” will release on Nike SNKRS come December 3. The MSRP is set at $100 USD.
