New Zealand-born artist Susan Te Kahurangi King is renowned for her abstract-meets-expressionist illustrations. The self-taught artist inhibits an intuitive approach in her drawing process, creating figurative forms on paper without using an eraser in an immediate fashion. In regards to her chosen characters, she often portrays recognizable pop culture subjects in unruly scrawls.
King is the latest artist to collaborate with leading contemporary art purveyor, Case Studyo, on a new sculptural edition. The ‘UNTITLED’ bronze artwork takes inspiration from a 1959 drawing that depicts a contorted version of Donald Duck, check it out below.
“Working closely with Susan’s family, Case Studyo carefully translated the drawing into a three-dimensional sculpture with the utmost respect for Susan’s compelling visual language. The resulting seminal bronze sculpture celebrates the unique work of an inspiring and astounding artist,” described Case Studyo.
The sculpture will arrive in a signed and numbered edition of eight units alongside four artist proofs. Each piece is packaged inside a bespoke screen-printed wood box with certificates of authenticity. Pricing details have not been relayed, but head over to Case Studyo’s website if you’re interested in purchasing a piece.
