Netflix has dropped a teaser for its take on Masamune Shirow’s revered Ghost In The Shell (Mobile Armored Riot Police in Japan) manga, Ghost In The Shell: SAC_2045. The first series in the franchise to be fully rendered with CG animation, the forthcoming series will be helmed by Stand Alone Complex director Kenji Kamiyama and Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki. Animation studios Production I.G. and SOLA Digital Arts, along with character designer Ilya Kuvshinow, will be responsible for bringing the show to life.
While the plot for SAC_2045 (Stand Alone Complex 2045) is still under wraps, Netflix’s official synopsis reads, “In the year 2045, after global capitalism has defaulted, Japan’s elite Section 9 begins conducting covert cyber operations.”
According to Production I.G. USA President Maki Terashima-Furuta, the forthcoming anime will run for two seasons with 12 episodes each.
