Stro Wants to Leave a Mark With His Music
He also premieres the video for “Waters” off his EP, ‘Nice 2 Meet You, Again.’
For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with Stro to discuss his new EP, Nice 2 Meet You, Again, self-love, Kendrick Lamar reaching out to him and making his mark in music.
Stro, also known as Stro The MC, has been a prodigy in hip-hop for the last few years, starting out when he was 14 years old and competing on The X Factor US as Astro. Since then, he’s moved past the competition and grown to become a stellar MC and respected artists. Now, no longer a teenager, he’s looking to leave a legacy.
“I feel like everybody just blending in, and to each its own, you can do that if you want. But I ain’t here to do that. I’m here to really leave a mark in the game and bring something new. If it’s not new, I can’t really connect with it.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Stro has made a name for himself over the past decade as a multifaceted rapper, producer and actor. Since gaining mainstream attention in 2011 on The X Factor US, he has since dropped six mixtapes, one EP and one album. He’s also a talented actor, starring in a number of films & TV shows including Earth to Echo, A Walk Among the Tombstones & Fox’s Red Ban Society. Last winter, Stro released Nice 2 Meet You, Again via Mass Appeal Records.
To go along with the Conversations With feature, Stro premieres the video for “Waters,” which includes his “intro” at the end of the visual, with HYPEBEAST. The video was directed by Charles Nordeen.
Up next, Stro will be heading on Mass Appeal’s first-ever “Starting 5” tour alongside label mates Fashawn, Ezri, Cantrell and 070 Phi. Tour will begin on Feb. 6 in Santa Ana, Calif. Tickets are available at Mass Appeal Records’ website.
