Gary Warnett’s untimely passing last year resulted in tributes from fans and friends including Nike and Supreme. A year later, Warnett’s friends still haven’t forgotten him, and Simone Smyth has crafted a bespoke Reebok Classic Leather that pays tribute to the sneaker enthusiast/journalist/personality.

Detail oozes from every seam of the runner, from the “BEDFORD” print on the insole that honors Warnett’s hometown to prison arrows embroidered around the shoe, a nod to the criminal-inspired Classic Leather designed by Warnett himself back in 2013. A single black eyelet offers another jail reference by touching on the “Borstal dot” prison tattoo. Black arrows seen under the icy ripple outsole are another nod to Warnett’s ‘13 design, while the tongue now bears an oversized Moomin design, which appeared as the header of his GWARIZM blog. Finally, the Reebok branding on the side bears a metal border with plastic overlay — a detail that hasn’t appeared on a Reebok Classic since the Reebok Ripples of the ’90s.

The Reebok Classic CL Leather “GWARIZM” will be gifted to the late journalist’s friends & family, and not be made available to the public.

Elsewhere, Brain Dead revamped a more conventional Reebok Classic for BEAMS.
