'Candyman' Tony Todd Encourages Jordan Peele Remake
The original actor from the film responds to the rumors.
Rumors have been swirling around Jordan Peele’s involvement in remaking the ’90s classic film, Candyman. The horror movie, adapted from Clive Barker’s “The Forbidden” short story, was a box office hit in 1992, grossing over $25 million USD and spawning two sequels.
Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Production company have been working on a number of horror/sci-fi projects including rebooting The Twilight Zone series and the upcoming film Us, so its no surprise that Peele’s name would come up around remaking Candyman.
During an interview, the actor stated ”If Jordan wants to do it, do it. I know I’d rather have him do it, someone with intelligence, who’s going to be thoughtful and dig into the whole racial makeup of who Candyman is and why he existed in the first place. I know he’ll give homage and I know that if it gets made, I’ll have a plate at the table one way or the other.”
With Peele’s recent Oscar win and critical acclamation for his debut film, Get Out, it would certainly be interesting to see him involved in a remake of the horror film.
