Kim Jones Values Culture Over Fashion
The Dior Homme artistic director opens up to Naomi Campbell.
For a new British Vogue interview series, Naomi Campbell is sitting down with some of modern fashion’s most influential features to find out what drives them. First up, she linked up with Virgil Abloh to discuss the emotional Kanye West hug, his strategy for Louis Vuitton and more. For the program’s second episode, Campbell connects with Dior Homme artistic director — and former Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director — Kim Jones for a five-minute conversation about Dior’s storied history, the clothes he loves, working with Supreme, Dior Homme’s spot in the contemporary fashion landscape and more.
Taking Naomi Campbell to the Dior Heritage building, Kim Jones provides an insightful journey through his current inspirations and plans. ”I walk around with my eyes open and see what’s happening,” Jones explains. “Culture’s much more important to me than the fashion aspect, because that’s how you reach people much more. That’s one of Virgil’s successes too I think — where people see things and they can relate to it and then they get interested in it and that’s key for me.”
