Label Claims Sample on Kanye West-Produced Teyana Taylor Song Was Not Cleared
“I don’t want to imply that they don’t intend to clear it.”
Kanye West and Teyana Taylor released their collaborative album K.T.S.E. earlier this month. Now, Numero Group claims that ‘Ye, who produced the album, did not clear a sample of “Issues/Hold On.” The song is recorded by an unknown artist and is a cover of Billy Stewart’s 1965 song “I Do Love You.”
“Without getting too nuanced, the Boddie Recording Company owns this master, and we represent their interests in such matters,” Label co-founder Rob Sevier said. “I want to be explicit that while we haven’t actually heard anything from Kanye’s team about this sample, we are in the midst of multiple other clearances and I don’t want to imply that they don’t intend to clear it.”
In an interview with Big Boy from Real 92.3, Taylor hinted that she had sample clearance issues. “I would probably have to blame a little bit of everybody because of the fact that we set a date and we had the listening party, and then we had clearance issues,” she said. “Like, as far as the clearance issues, I don’t know. I feel like everybody plays a part.” Because of this, an updated version of the album is coming out next week.
